Introduction
With the Industrial Revolution came design; designs that exist for functionality and style. Amidst the interconnected social, economical, and cultural influences is how the unprecedented “TRANS-EVOLVING” comes to be formed.
As part of the 2011 IDA Congress Taipei, the International Industrial Design Exhibition titled “TRANS-EVOLVING” is categorized based on a time-line and divided into three key exhibition segments of “Classical Style”, “Contemporary Concept” and “Future Impression”. Evolutions in design styles from the past century, innovative designs from the first decade of this century, and also future trends and issues are the key contents of this exhibition. With over a hundred iconic design works from the East and the West, the exhibition aptly narrates the evolving design history of the past century. From the Art and Craft Movement to Bauhaus, streamline and organic designs, and leading to Postmodernism and Deconstructionism, the exhibition acts as a platform to showcase all important phases in design history. With focuses also on transformations in materials, styles, colors and how technological advancements, social and cultural influences and art trends have impacted design, it is our intention to offer to the audiences an opportunity to understand how design has come to shape the modern world that we live in today.
