Introduction

Titled Empathy: Sensory Awakening, this exhibition is dedicated to address the key question as to how artists confronted with the technology-based “real” body, perception, existence and meaning in the 20th century managed to evoke spectators’ feeling of empathy through their tours de force. A total of 14 new media artists par excellence are invited to strut their stuff in this exhibition. They employ innovative technologies and novel concepts to create new visual experiences and add new dimensions in which the visitors may rekindle their interest in exploring the essence of life and develop a deep empathy with the artists. These participating artists bear more than a passing resemblance to scientists who have ventured into the unknown and therefore changed human history and life experiences. On top of that, their exhibits virtually allow the visitors to appreciate the wonderfulness of life.
