Florian Claar has focused extensively on the rhythmic qualities of light and objects, specializing in large-scale sculptures that showcase the fluid and dynamic qualities of air currents, creating artworks that are profoundly futuristic. With the artwork, Movement No.9 –Air gate, Claar imagines the airport as an intermediary interface between the sky and the ground, as the artwork also incorporates the different “energies” created as an object moves through the air and also references aviation technology. The shape of the artwork is derived from the rhythmic postures observed when an object moves rapidly, showing a curved contour as it goes through compression and expansion, as the artwork seeks to embody the different notable features observed with dynamic viscosity, compressibility, and three-dimensional motion. A visual experience exuding with a pulsating energy is created through the relaxed and also expanded state of the artwork, echoing with travelers’ physical and mental shifts as they await at the airport before embarking on their journeys. The artist has also chosen to work with his familiar medium of metal, creating an artwork that showcases the fluidity and speed of air and force. Standing before the artwork, the viewers are able to experience the movements and speed of the wind.
