2023/03/14
More than 30 artists x 20 alley spaces, exploring the infinite possibilities of art and contemporary society. This year (2024), coinciding with the Tainan 400 anniversary, the Tainan New Art Award is curated by curator Hu Chao-Sheng under the theme “Boundless Habitat.” From nearly 500 entries reaching new heights, 10 outstanding award-winning artists are selected along with 12 invited exhibiting artists, exhibiting together in 10 galleries from March 14th to April 14th. Additionally, employing the curatorial concept of integrating art with historical spaces, “South Alley Art Affairs” is launched. It invites 11 previous winners of the New Art Award to collaborate with 10 diverse alley spaces and shops, aiming to encourage the public to explore Tainan’s unique historical district culture and alley atmosphere.
#South Alley Art Affairs: New Art Award Blossoms in Ancient Alleys
In 2024, coinciding with the Tainan 400 celebration, the Tainan City Cultural Bureau specially organizes the “South Alley Art Affairs,” inviting 11 past winners of the New Art Award and 10 distinctive Tainan alleyway shops, aiming to infuse cultural aesthetics into the streets and provide people with a different artistic perception of urban space.
#5G Technology: Showcasing Trends in the Fusion of Technology and Art
In addition to fostering engaging conversations between art and unique spaces, “South Alley Art Affairs” also emphasizes the integration of culture, art, and technology. It invites the 2019 Tainan New Art Award winner, Hong Yu-Hao, to exhibit “Town Chronicles • 5G VR Experience Version” at the brick-built old house “Art DeCorner.” The work explores the evolution of Taiwan’s coastal towns, the pioneering and profound faith of ancestors who crossed the ocean, drawing inspiration from the Jin Tang Palace’s cut-and-paste art. Utilizing 3D scanning technology, it digitally preserves the market scene of Jiali, presenting the region’s time and cultural memory.
#Salon Lectures and Tours: Exploring Historical Districts
This edition’s New Art Award educational outreach program includes three art salon lectures: immersing in a mobile art journey, witnessing and experiencing transformative creative dialogues, and when art enters this habitat of society. Curated by Hu Chao-Sheng, the salon sessions will involve discussions between the curator and New Art Award artists, sharing and exchanging creative ideas on different themes.
